Know who you're inviting into your home.
Before your nanny, caregiver, or housekeeper starts, request a nationwide background check and driving record — both in one report. Included with Plus, one check per worker every year. Nothing is ever run until you ask for it.
Two checks. One report. No extra charge.
The full picture on the person you're about to trust with your family and your home — bundled into a single report, and part ofPlus rather than a line item on top of it.
Background check
A nationwide criminal database search plus the national sex-offender registry, and an SSN trace that surfaces address history and known aliases to search on.
- Nationwide criminal records
- Sex-offender registry
- SSN trace & address history
Driving history
A motor-vehicle report (MVR) for the candidate's license state — essential if your caregiver will drive your kids to school, activities, or appointments.
- License status & class
- Violations & suspensions
- Accidents on record
How screening works.
Consent-based and handled for you — so it's fast for you and fair to the candidate.
Invite your candidate
From your dashboard, request a check for the person you're hiring — included with Plus. We email them a secure, private consent form.
They consent & verify
The candidate authorizes the check and enters their own SSN and details on our encrypted form. Their sensitive info goes straight to the screening bureau — never to you.
You get the report
Usually within a day, you get an email that the report is ready — a clean, plain-English summary of the background and driving results, right in your account.
- Nationwide criminal background check
- Sex-offender registry & SSN trace
- Motor-vehicle / driving record (MVR)
- FCRA consent & adverse-action handling
- Plain-English report, delivered by email
Screening is optional. Payroll, tax math, and year-end forms stay free whether or not you ever run a check.
A fraction of what an agency charges.
A nanny agency's screening or a standalone background-check service often runs $100–$150 per report — and many bundle it into a placement fee in the thousands. Plus includes the same background and driving checks, every year, for $79 a year all in.
Fair to the candidate. Safe for you.
Background and driving checks are regulated for good reason. House builds the rules in so you stay compliant without becoming an expert.
You never see their SSN
The candidate enters their own Social Security number on an encrypted form that goes straight to the screening bureau. It never lands in your inbox or your account.
Consent-first, by law
Every report requires the candidate's written authorization under the FCRA. Nothing is ordered until they say yes — so screening is transparent, not sneaky.
We guide adverse action
If a report changes your decision, we supply the pre-adverse and adverse-action notices the law requires, so you can decline a candidate the right way.
Reports handled with care
Screening data is sensitive. We store it encrypted, keep it private to your household, and never sell it — the same standard we hold for payroll SSNs.
House is not a consumer reporting agency. Screening reports are provided through a third-party FCRA-regulated background-check bureau. You agree to use reports only for permissible employment purposes and to follow the FCRA's consent and adverse-action requirements. Screening results are one input into your hiring decision — not legal advice or a hiring recommendation.
Screening questions, answered.
What exactly is in the report?
One report bundling a nationwide criminal background check (national database plus sex-offender registry and an SSN trace with address history) and a motor-vehicle report (driving record) for the candidate's license state. Plus includes one per worker per calendar year; extra reports in the same year are $59 each.
Is this legal? Do I need the candidate's permission?
Yes to both — and we handle it for you. Background and driving checks are covered by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), which requires the candidate's written consent before a report is pulled. House emails your candidate a secure consent form; nothing is ordered until they authorize it and enter their own information. This keeps you compliant and keeps their SSN out of your hands.
How long does it take?
Most background and driving reports come back within a few hours to one business day once the candidate completes the consent form. Some county-level records can take longer depending on the courthouse. You'll get an email the moment the report is ready.
What if the report shows something concerning?
Federal law gives the candidate rights before you act on a report (the FCRA 'adverse action' process). House walks you through it: if you decide not to hire based on a report, we provide the pre-adverse and adverse-action notices and a copy of the report to give the candidate, so you stay compliant.
Do I have to run screening to use House?
Not at all. Payroll, tax math, pay stubs, and year-end forms are always free, and you never have to screen anyone. Screening is part of Plus, for families who want it.
Is a check run again automatically each year?
No. Screening is an annual item you can request, not a subscription that fires on a schedule — a report about a real person should never be pulled without a decision behind it. Plus includes one check per worker per calendar year; when you want it, you ask for it, and your worker consents. If you never ask, nothing is ever run.
Should I re-check someone who already works for me?
Many families do, once a year — a driving record in particular changes. It's your call: request one when it makes sense to you, and the person consents again each time.
Hire with confidence.
